Families are diverse and each family has a unique story to tell. Families have variations in structure, roles and responsibilities, communication styles, attachment styles, emotional climates, dynamics and interactions, and biological and environmental patterns. The interconnectedness of individuals within a family system demonstrates that challenges faced by one family member impacts and shifts the entire family dynamic and familial system. Individuals and their “symptoms” cannot be fully understood without the integration of family systems framework and family of origin work, as family molds who we are and colors how we view and experience the world.

Family holds significant power and is an essential force in our lives. The dynamics within family relationships play a pivotal role in encouraging positive change. It is necessary to understand the intricate web of connections within families, as well as the varied experiential hues that each family member experiences. Each member of the family brings a refreshing, meaningful, and vital perspective that facilitates authentic, lasting, and comprehensive change and restoration. A secure relationship with our significant family members provides capacity to help heal devastating wounds, embellish our sense of connection to the larger world, and achieve whole growth and healing. Our objective is to provide a safe, empathic, and non-judgmental space for all members to feel deeply seen, accepted, and understood.

What to expect in FAMILY THERAPY:
The Value of Systemic Care

Our licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFTs) possess a specialized and refined therapeutic lens attuned to the complex dynamics within family relationships. Our highly effective approach is deeply rooted in the principles of family systems, acknowledging the profound impact of relationships on individual well-being. Central to our practice is the recognition of the interconnectedness of all elements within the family unit and the broader universe. In understanding that a shift in one aspect of the system influences every part, we navigate the complexities and beauties inherent in family dynamics.

Within this context, the notion of multifinality arises. It emphasizes the understanding that families with similar backgrounds, structures, and experiences may evolve in varied ways, leading to a wide range of outcomes despite shared experiences. This concept recognizes that families sharing common initial conditions or facing similar challenges, can ultimately end up with different configurations, dynamics, and overall well-being. The notion of multifinality also extends to individuals within these familial systems. It underlines that individuals, even when originating from similar family backgrounds, may experience diverse trajectories and outcomes.

Our clinicians are dedicated to navigating these multifinal paths with a systemic perspective. We acknowledge that families and individuals are unique, and despite shared experiences, their trajectories can diverge significantly. Tailoring our interventions to meet the specific needs of each family member(s) and family, our systemically-trained family therapists are well-equipped to address the intricacies of diverse family structures, family roles and responsibilities, and family dynamics and relationships. Our commitment lies in recognizing and embracing the multifinality inherent in the therapeutic journey, ensuring that our interventions are responsive to the distinctive characteristics of each family and individual we serve.

Our objective is to facilitate second-order change, that is, sustained healing and change for our clients, and recognizing that the transformative outcomes extend beyond individual well-being. The positive shifts experienced by our clients reverberate through familial systems, igniting co-healing among family members. This ripple effect extends to communities and contributes to positive societal change. Our devotion to our families involve navigating these complexities with a systemic perspective, fostering meaningful and lasting change at the individual, familial, and societal levels.
